Faith page: We are fast approaching the feast of Our Lady of Lourdes. That is important to us because it is who the Shrine was dedicated to and named after. In France, on February 11, 1858, Mary, Jesus’s mother, appeared to a young girly the name of Bernadette Soubirous. Mary appeared to her 18 times. During one of those appearances, a miraculous spring of water was discovered where Bernadette had been praying. Since 1858, miracles have occurred at this place calle Lourdes. Millions of people continue to visit the Shrine. Here in Euclid, Ohio. our Shrine of Our Lady of Lourdes, commemorates these visits of Mary to Bernadette by having a novena which is a period of nine days of prayer. You see, the message that Mary gave to Bernadette was not about the miracles. Mary gave Bernadette the specific message to have the people pray to her Son, Jesus. There are so many problems today and the only solution is prayer. Join us!

Bible Vs.: 1 Jn. 5:4 In this way we know that we love the children of God when we love God and obey his commandments.

Prayer: O, dear Lord, please accept my humble prayers. Help me to know your will and to do it. I beg you to help me to carry out the tasks that you set before me. Help me to love all as you did. Amen

Spotlight: Please come to our Shrine and pray. It is only in humbling ourselves before our God that we can accomplish anything. The novena will begin Wednesday, February 3rd and go through Thursday, February 11th. Rosary will begin at 7:00 PM each evening followed by Mass. Our Lady of Lourdes Shrine, 21281 Chardon Rd., Euclid, Ohio 44117, 216-481-8232.

Great living to do

by Ralph Marston

Stop waiting for the right time and make this the right time. Stop begging for permission and give yourself permission to live an outstanding life filled with all the experiences and joys you want to have.

You don’t have to hope for a lucky break. You just have to step forward, take your destiny in your own hands, and do the work to give your own unique vision to this world.

Right now, right in front of you are actions you can take and positive differences you can make. Don’t hesitate another minute to get started making the most of what you already have.

Throw the doubts and excuses out the window and throw yourself into creating new value and goodness. You know you can do it, and you know how great it will feel.

You’ve already made the massive investment of your whole life to get to this point. Now, do something worthy of all that time and effort.

Raise your expectations, step beyond your doubts, and engage your passion. You have a lot of great living to do, and now is when to do it.

Shrine Spotlight 1-28-16

We will soon be celebrating the unofficial holiday called Valentine’s Day February 14th.  Known as the day for lovers. Even though the greeting card companies have made it an obligation to send your loved one a Valentine’s Day card the day is all about a different kind of love.  Valentine was an actual person.  He lived in Rome in the days when it was against the law to be a Christian.  Valentine would send messages to Christians who had been arrested.  These messages were in the form of a heart and they were even dyed red to symbolize the love and sacrifice of Jesus for these Christians who in most cases would rather give up their lives than their faith.  The hearts would be smuggled into the prison so that these Christians would be aware of the prayers and support of the Christian communities.  Eventually it was discovered that Valentine was the person responsible for this and he too was killed.  So Valentine’s Day has a deeper meaning than what we attribute to it. Why don’t we put a little more meaning into this day then the one dictated to us by society? Come up to Our Lady of Lourdes Shrine, visit the gift shop and send out that Valentine’s Day card, but give it a religious twist.  It would have a much deeper meaning.

Live where you are

by Ralph Marston

Stop worrying over things you can do nothing about. Instead, put your awareness and energy into positive efforts to improve those things you can influence.

You have what it takes to successfully get through this minute, and then to get through the next minute, and the next. One moment at a time, one hour at a time, one day, one week, one month at a time, you can move forward.

If you feel overwhelmed, keep in mind that much of that feeling comes from focusing on things outside this moment. Pull your focus back into the moment you’re in, and see all the good things you can now do.

It’s great to plan for and work toward the future, but it’s draining to attempt to always live there. Live where you are, when you are, making good use of what you have when you now have it.

Don’t waste the possibilities of today fretting over the uncertainties of tomorrow. You are alive, aware and able right now, so put it all to good use.

Be inspired by the beauty, empowered by the abundance, and urged on by the possibilities of now. Live now, live fully, and put yourself in the best position for all the good things to come.

All better

by Ralph Marston

If you try to make it all better all at once you’ll end up frustrated. But you can make it a little bit better, and then a little bit more, and then a little bit more.

If you are fifty pounds overweight you won’t be able to lose all that weight by next week. Yet you can lose a pound or two, and then more the next week, and so on until you’ve reached the goal.

Just because you can’t do it all at once is no reason to be dismayed. In fact it is a good reason to go ahead and do what you do can right now.

Time will dependably pass and you can use every moment of that time to make progress. The incremental progress you make will quickly add up.

An hour from now, you can be one step closer to your goal than you were before. Take that step now, and then be ready to take the next one.

Put time on your side by putting it to use, doing what you can, when you can. Start now, take control of your destiny, and keep going.

Prayer of the Day 1-14-15

Prayer: Almighty God, help me to see myself as I really am and to put things into perspective.  Help me to forgive myself so that I can forgive others.  Let me see with your eyes.  Help me to get out of your way. Amen

Shrine Spotlight 1-11-15

Recently the Cleveland Museum of Art hosted an exhibit of the impressionists Monet to Matisse.  Cleveland was the only location of this particular exhibit in the United States.  Tickets were very difficult to get.  The museum extended the hours of the exhibit and still it was sold out.  The emphasis of the display was on the garden works of many impressionists.  The art work was simply breathtaking. It was explained that many of these paintings were created in response to the ugliness of war.  If you know anything about impressionistic art when you look at it close up, you see splotches of colors.  When you stand back you see the subjects of the work: family, flowers and a sense of appreciation of God’s gift to all of us.  That is like life when we look at a situation up close we only see a small fraction of it.  Not until we stand back and look at it in perspective do we really see what the picture actually is.  We see not only the problems, but also the gifts that God has given us. Let’s put life in perspective.
