Happy Birthday Roberta Flack

Birthday wishes to Grammy Award winning singer-songwriter Roberta Flack who celebrates today (February 10).  Roberta was born in Black Mountain, NC and raised in Arlington, VA.  She began playing the piano when she was four and started studying classical piano at age nine.  She received a scholarship to Howard University when she was only 15.  Flack is best known for her Grammy winning songs "The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face" and "Killing Me Softly with His Song."  She released her latest album earlier this week entitled, Let It Be Roberta: Roberta Flack Sings The Beatles.  The collection offers her unique take on some of her favorite Beatles songs, including a special hymn-like version of "Hey Jude."  Roberta also received the approval and support of Yoko Ono, the two have been neighbors for years, with Yoko writing the liner notes for the project.  Roberta is currently on tour in support of the album with a show scheduled for tonight in Costa Mesa, CA.
