Cleveland’s own Joe Lovano is internationally recognized as one of the most accomplished tenor sax players alive. He’s a Grammy Award winner who’s always in the Top Five in Down Beat and JazzTimes Reader’s and Critic’s polls. His collaborations have included the Saxophone Summit, which he formed with Dave Liebman and Michael Brecker, and a contribution to the critically lauded 2007 McCoy Tyner album Quartet. JazzTimes critic George Varga writes that Lovano is “long noted as an artist who thinks as hard as he plays, … brainy and brawny, earthy and urbane.” Lovano will be joined by James Weidman (piano), Peter Slavov (bass), Francisco Mela (drums), Otis Brown (drums) and, in honor of Lovano’s 60th birthday, some surprise guests.
